Virginia Western Community College is seeking a full-time Financial Aid Advisor to provide comprehensive financial aid advising and maintain web content accuracy. Job Description
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for a full-time Financial Aid Advisor. The incumbent will provide student financial aid advising and customer service for all office constituents – students, parents, colleagues, leadership, external partners/organizations, etc. This position is responsible for regularly maintaining and ensuring the accuracy of financial aid related web pages on the Virginia Western website. This position also completes Satisfactory Academic Progress ( SAP ) reviews and manages related student communications. This position also serves as a procurement officer for the Student Affairs division.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite strong interpersonal/human relations skills, and the capacity to work with virtually all types of people; strong written and oral communication skills; proficiency in basic office procedures (filing, word processing, etc.).
Additional Considerations
Familiarity with college financial aid principles and practices, preferred; working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines, preferred. Knowledge of student information systems, preferred. National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators credentials preferred.
