Job description

You know how to take a household from a first conversation to a funded decision. The problem is how much of your week goes to finding that conversation, splitting credit for it, or doing other work that doesn't highlight what you're best at

We're adding a Financial Advisor to our Lake Oswego office to serve the Portland metro. Asset Preservation Wealth & Tax is a retirement-focused wealth, tax, estate, and insurance firm founded in 1997, with offices in Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and South Carolina.

Portland is an established market with a beautiful office, a well-known brand, and a demand model that fills our advisors' calendars. We're hiring because Portland has more retirement households to serve than we can handle end to end.

Where the appointments come from

Education creates our demand. The Asset Preservation Hour runs on television, radio, and podcast; Retire Well seminars, workshops, and digital content bring pre-retirees and retirees to a first appointment already interested in planning.

This is not a cold-prospecting seat, and no portable book is required. It's also not a handoff of clients: a lead is an appointment, not yet a client. Qualification, conviction, the ask, and follow-up stay with you.

What you own

Our clients are typically pre-retirees and retirees with roughly $500,000 to $5 million of investable assets who need one coordinated answer on income, investment risk, taxes, protection, and legacy rather than a product sale. You lead discovery, find the household's real decision and who needs to be in the room to make it, develop or direct the analysis with our planning and tax colleagues, and present a connected recommendation: what to do about income, investments, taxes, and protection, and why. You handle the objections, ask for the business, and set the next step.

After the decision, you hand off a complete case and track transfers, applications, and missing information through funding. Planning, new-business processing, and administrative support are in place to keep your calendar full of client meetings. The less visible work is persistent follow-up, preparing for a skeptical spouse or adult child, and recovering incomplete plans/cases.

Stewart Willis, our founder, president, and lead advisor, personally trains all new advisors. He still advises high-net-worth households himself, so the standard you're coached to is the one he works to. Seminars, workshops, and media support the model, so a few evenings a month should be expected. Comfort presenting to a room and/or broadcasting experience are great, but not required to be a great fit.

How the pay works

Elite, top-tier day-one base, plus a meaningful percentage of the revenue you generate, from day one, dollar one, and much more. Not commission-only, and everything is negotiable for the right fit. Base is set against your current production and needs, not a fixed band.

What we need to see
  • Several years in the industry and a record of personally closing clients/households.
  • An active Series 65 or Series 66, or a qualifying CFP, CPA, or CFA designation.
  • An active life insurance license.
  • Retirement-planning fluency: income, investments, taxes, distributions, estate coordination, and protection connected in one clear client conversation.
  • The judgment to recommend an annuity when it fits and decline it when it doesn't.
  • Reliable follow-up and clean coordination with planning and implementation colleagues.
  • In-person coverage of the Portland metro from Lake Oswego. Initial training with Stewart may include travel to Phoenix.

Investor-center consultants, bank and wirehouse advisors, hybrid and RIA advisors, insurance producers with active advisory qualifications and real planning depth, and second-chair advisors already running discovery and closing all transfer well. A CFP strengthens a demonstrated record, but can't replace it.

The trade

You give up some control vs. starting/owning an independent practice, and compensation, marketing spend, lead allocation, and staffing are firm decisions. And you'll need to learn/run our general process before you improve it.

In return, you get an established, highly polished platform that elevates both you and the brand and makes you impossible to ignore (NBC/ABC/CBS/FOX), elite compensation from day one on, obstinately limitless demand for your planning expertise, strong operational support, and an owner who still does the job.
