Job Summary
The Finance Transformation Lead provides senior level leverage to the Vice President, Finance in advancing GBU Life’s Enterprise Finance Strategy. The role leads Finance transformation, Target Operating Model implementation, cross functional governance, strategic initiatives, executive decision support, and external advisor coordination.
The role integrates Accounting, Treasury and Capital Management, FP and A, Actuarial, Investments, BI/Data, Technology, ERM, HR, and other functions, ensuring an integrated roadmap, clear ownership and decision rights, managed dependencies, and sustainable GBU capabilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance Transformation and Target Operating Model
- Own and maintain the integrated Finance transformation roadmap, including workstreams, milestones, dependencies, owners, decisions, risks, capacity, benefits, and priorities.
- Lead implementation of the Finance Target Operating Model by translating the target state into capabilities, decision rights, governance, organizational actions, role clarity, transition plans, and sustainable practices.
- Partner with Finance leaders to translate priorities into deliverables, operating routines, controls, measures, ownership models, and handoff criteria.
- Identify opportunities to eliminate duplication, clarify ownership, improve processes, strengthen controls, and establish sustainable first line capabilities.
- Develop process documentation, SOPs, ownership maps, governance charters, decision frameworks, and reusable management tools retained within GBU Life.
- Support workforce and capability planning, including role requirements, hiring priorities, interim coverage, onboarding, and transition plans with Finance leadership and HR.
Transformation Governance and Program Leadership
- Establish and manage transformation governance, including agendas, executive pre reads, decision logs, action tracking, escalation, and follow through.
- Coordinate complex initiatives across Finance and business functions; maintain visibility into dependencies, sequencing, resources, capacity, risks, issues, and leadership decisions.
- Ensure initiatives have accountable owners and progress through completion.
- Develop dashboards, capacity views, decision registers, risk/issue logs, milestone reporting, and benefits tracking for Finance leadership.
- Influence outcomes without direct authority through structured problem solving, accountability, and stakeholder management.
Strategic Finance and Executive Decision Support
- Support the Vice President, Finance and leadership with strategic planning, scenarios, financial analysis, capital allocation considerations, and strategic alternatives.
- Coordinate planning and profitability initiatives involving models, assumptions, data, governance, reporting, and capabilities across FP and A, Actuarial, Treasury, Investments, Accounting, and BI/Data.
- Provide analytical and execution support for reinsurance, capital management, ALM, profitability, operating model initiatives, transactions, and other enterprise priorities.
- Prepare concise executive materials outlining decisions, alternatives, rationale, financial implications, risks, dependencies, owners, and next steps.
- Translate complex financial and operational issues into clear executive level information supporting timely decisions.
Finance Functional Integration
- Partner with Accounting/Financial Operations on close transformation, controllership, systems, controls, succession, capacity, and operating model improvements while preserving ownership of accounting policies, technical decisions, and recurring deliverables.
- Partner with Treasury and Capital Management on liquidity, capital, funding, ALM, hedging, governance, function development, and staffing/capability dependencies without assuming Treasury strategy or technical ownership.
- Coordinate with FP and A/Performance Management on planning, profitability, expenses, reporting, forecasting, and performance governance.
- Coordinate with Actuarial on planning, modeling, assumptions, pricing, reinsurance, and capability dependencies while preserving ownership of methodologies and technical decisions.
- Coordinate with Investments on governance, portfolio reporting, ALM inputs, manager oversight, and committee readiness while preserving investment strategy and decision ownership.
- Partner with BI/Data and Technology on Finance requirements and delivery priorities involving reporting, Oracle, data governance, automation, architecture, and technology solutions; coordinate business outcomes without owning enterprise technology or data architecture.
- Work with ERM/Internal Audit on risk, control, and governance dependencies while maintaining first line Finance accountability.
- Partner with HR and Finance leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, recruiting, specialist support, onboarding, capability development, and transitions.
External Advisor and Consultant Management
- Manage Finance external advisor engagements, coordinating scope, deliverables, milestones, dependencies, commercial guardrails, knowledge transfer, and exit criteria.
- Ensure advisors provide specialized expertise while GBU retains ownership of the roadmap, governance, decisions, models, processes, and capabilities.
- Establish knowledge transfer so Finance can sustain new processes, capabilities, and tools after engagements conclude.
- Monitor deliverables and elevate scope, timing, quality, dependency, or resource concerns; transition advisor developed capabilities, documentation, and tools into GBU ownership.
Board, Committee and Executive Readiness
- Support Board, Audit Committee, Investment Committee, and executive readiness processes by coordinating timelines, gathering/validating inputs, conducting quality reviews, identifying dependencies, and tracking follow up.
- Ensure materials identify decisions, financial implications, risks, supporting analysis, and accountable owners while maintaining functional ownership of technical content.
- Coordinate follow through on leadership and committee decisions and incorporate actions into the Finance roadmap or workstream.
Organizational Change and Sustainable Adoption
- Help Finance leaders translate transformation objectives into changes to processes, roles, governance, technology, reporting, and management routines.
- Identify organizational impacts, adoption risks, capability gaps, and transition requirements.
- Partner with Finance and HR on role clarity, organizational changes, hiring, onboarding, and capability development.
- Ensure transformation outcomes transition to appropriate functional teams rather than becoming permanent responsibilities of the transformation role.
- Promote consistent Finance operating practices, accountability, documentation, and continuous improvement.
Other Responsibilities
- Build trusted relationships and serve as an integrator between strategic priorities and operational execution.
- Maintain broad understanding of Finance interdependencies while respecting functional technical and operational accountability.
- Perform other strategic Finance, transformation, analytical, or enterprise responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President, Finance.
Properly Adheres to Company Risk Management Principles
- Adhere to and support GBU’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; complete required training; execute and monitor controls; identify, assess, elevate, and remediate risks, issues, and control failures; and report compliance or regulatory concerns to management.
- Conduct oneself in accordance with the Employee Handbook and preserve GBU’s brand and reputation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Strategy, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in Finance transformation, enterprise Finance, strategy, management consulting, operating model design, program leadership, or related discipline.
- Experience leading complex cross functional initiatives with executive visibility, multiple stakeholders, and significant interdependencies.
- Strong financial and business acumen across planning, accounting, capital, actuarial, investment, data, and technology functions.
- Ability to develop executive decision materials and translate complex or ambiguous issues into clear choices, actions, owners, milestones, and outcomes.
- Strong program leadership, stakeholder management, structured problem solving, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to influence senior leaders and drive accountability without formal authority.
- Ability to manage multiple strategic priorities while maintaining focus on outcomes, dependencies, risks, and follow through.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in insurance or broader financial services.
- Experience with Finance Target Operating Model implementation, strategic planning, profitability management, close transformation, Treasury/capital management, or Finance data transformation.
- Big Four or strategy consulting experience combined with building sustainable internal capabilities.
- MBA, CPA, CFA, PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or other relevant advanced degree/professional designation.
- Experience managing consulting SOWs, deliverables, knowledge transfer, transition plans, and advisor off ramps.
- Experience supporting Boards, Audit Committees, Investment Committees, executive leadership teams, or similar governance bodies.
- Experience with financial systems, enterprise data, reporting platforms, automation, or Finance technology transformation.
