Job summary

Berks County Intermediate Unit seeks an accomplished finance leader to serve as Assistant Director for Finance. The role guides financial strategy, ensures fiscal accountability, and supports sound business practices advancing education services across Berks County.

The position requires five years in financial settings, strong knowledge of GASB and government grants, and expertise in budgeting, reporting, and risk management. Exempt, full-time, salary provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Accounting; advanced degree or CPA preferred.
• Minimum of five years’ experience in a business or financial setting.
• Strong knowledge of financial, accounting, cash flow, and investment management; GASB and government grants knowledge preferred.
• Experience in staff development/management in a school or business setting.
• Proficient with current financial and accounting software and Excel.
• Familiarity with Pennsylvania DOE State Accounting Code.
• Ability to interface with all levels of staff and external partners.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting, selecting, supervising, and evaluating staff within Office of Business Service.
• Assist in preparation and review of Intermediate Unit budgets.
• Consolidate financial information for Annual Financial Report and indirect cost schedules.
• Coordinate submission of state and federal fiscal forms.
• Assist in revenue acquisition from state and federal agencies.
• Coordinate all IU accounting operations.
• Assist in developing policies for the Office of Business Services.
• Prepare financial studies and demographic analyses as required.
• Plan year-end closing activities.
• Coordinate year-end audit with independent auditors and provide reports.
• Prepare financial data and participate in contract negotiations as deemed by CFO.
• Prepare monthly and periodic status reports for CFO.
• Assist in administering the risk management program.
• Implement policies approved by the Board in conformity with regulations.
• Assist in implementing the employee benefits program’s financial aspects.
• Evaluate and set up leases for assets.
• Maintain relationships with banks and financial institutions.
• Perform other duties as required.
