Job summary

SLMath in Berkeley, CA seeks a Finance and Operations Manager to oversee administrative, financial, and operational duties. This on-site leadership role partners with the Directorate and leads 1–3 staff, handling licenses, compliance, payroll, audits, and immigration for visiting scholars.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in nonprofit management, strong multitasking and communication skills, and experience with legal and procurement processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; MBA or advanced degree or certificate preferred; CPA strongly preferred
• Minimum of 5 years nonprofit management experience; academic environments desirable
• Prior experience as operational leader of a CA nonprofit required
• Professional risk management experience
• Excellent multitasking, problem solving, meeting deadlines, and attention to detail
• Proficient at multitasking, problem solving, meeting deadlines, organizing, attending to detail, and delegating appropriately

Responsibilities

• Administrative Management: licenses, insurance, tax and regulatory compliance
• Risk management: SLMath Risk Matrix and directorate advisement
• Compliance: employment practices, nonprofit law, regulations
• Legal: coordinate with attorneys for various matters
• Procurement and Contracts: negotiate, issue RFPs, sign contracts
• Vendor Management: maintain supplier records and enforce contracts
• Project Management: lead cross-functional initiatives
• Finance: payroll, budgets, financial statements, audits, and sign-offs
• Immigration: manage immigration for visiting scholars and SEVIS
• Facilities: oversee Berkeley office and building operations
• Leadership: supervise 1–3 staff and support directorate
• Other duties as assigned
