Job summary

Edison Scientific, Inc. is seeking its first dedicated finance hire to own the company’s financial operating system, build the core financial model, oversee books, manage compute spend, and ensure deals align with the business trajectory.

This role is strategic and hands-on, based in San Francisco or New York with a strong preference for San Francisco, demanding an executive presence and willingness to roll up sleeves in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in operations, consulting, finance, or a similar business-side role.
• Strong analytical and financial modeling experience.
• Executive level communication skills.
• Comfort working in ambiguity, context-switching, and high intensity.
• Actively uses AI tools to create leverage across daily work.
• Strong interest in AI for science.

Responsibilities

• Own Edison’s books.
• Build and maintain the financial model, cash forecast, and runway view.
• Report on spend by team, vendor, and program so leadership can see where the money is going.
• Own revenue recognition, invoicing, and collections on pharma and biotech contracts.
• Own the finance stack (ERP, billing, procurement, expense) and keep it simple.
• Partner on payroll, benefits, and equity administration.
• Support headcount planning and budgeting with each function lead.
• Model major commitments (compute, data acquisition, facilities).
• Support and advise on commercial deals on pricing, structure, and margin.
• Prepare board and investor reporting.
