A leading investment firm is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join its Boston team. This position will support a portfolio of privately held investments and related entities, with responsibility spanning accounting, financial oversight, reporting, and investment activity.
The Manager will take ownership of key finance processes while working alongside investment professionals and other areas of the organization. This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to combine a technical accounting foundation with greater exposure to investments, transactions, and portfolio activity.
Candidates may come from an investment management organization, real estate investment firm, fund environment, or public accounting firm where they have supported real estate or financial services clients.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Take ownership of accounting and reporting activities across a portfolio of investment entities.
- Manage recurring close and reporting requirements while ensuring financial information is accurate and delivered on schedule.
- Review financial statements, account activity, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and other accounting documentation.
- Analyze portfolio activity and investigate significant or unusual transactions.
- Monitor cash requirements and help coordinate funding activity across multiple entities.
- Review investment-related calculations and ensure activity is recorded appropriately.
- Support the finance work associated with new investments, financing events, asset sales, and other transactions.
- Review financial information provided by external accounting partners and other third parties.
- Coordinate with outside service providers responsible for portions of the accounting and reporting process.
- Support annual audits and other recurring financial or regulatory requirements.
- Provide accounting guidance and financial information to internal business partners.
- Assist with periodic valuation and portfolio review activities.
- Support investor and management reporting requests.
- Review the work of junior team members and provide ongoing coaching and development.
- Participate in annual planning and other finance initiatives.
- Help identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve reporting, and automate manual activities through technology.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Approximately 5–8 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Experience within real estate, private investments, asset management, fund accounting, or a related financial services environment.
- Candidates coming directly from public accounting will be considered, particularly those with real estate, investment management, or financial services clients.
- Strong foundation in U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience working with investment entities, partnership structures, or private funds is highly desirable.
- Understanding of real estate investment activity and valuation concepts is a plus.
- Experience reviewing complex transactions and determining their accounting impact.
- Comfortable working with third-party accounting providers, auditors, and other external partners.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting or investment management systems.
- Experience with Yardi or another real estate accounting platform is helpful but not required.
- Ability to manage several workstreams simultaneously and operate effectively around quarterly and annual deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance professionals.
- Experience reviewing or mentoring junior accounting professionals.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
WHY CONSIDER THIS ROLE
This position offers considerably broader exposure than a traditional corporate accounting role. The Finance Manager will work across accounting, reporting, portfolio activity, transactions, and investment-related projects while gaining visibility into how a large investment platform operates.
The role can be a particularly strong next step for a public accounting Manager looking to move in-house or for someone currently working in fund accounting, real estate finance, or investment management who wants increased ownership and broader responsibilities.
