Job summary

Oliver James Group is seeking a Finance Manager to join its insurance investment platform in New York. The role blends accounting and financial reporting across multiple insurance and reinsurance entities within a growing investment ecosystem.

You will support monthly closes, prepare journal entries, review GAAP/statutory reporting, and liaise with auditors. A strong Excel skill set and experience in alternative investments are valued.

Qualifications

• 2-8 years' experience within insurance accounting, financial reporting or reinsurance.
• Experience within a life insurer, annuity provider, reinsurer or insurance group.
• Understanding of US GAAP and/or statutory accounting principles.
• Exposure to quarterly close, financial statements, reconciliations and regulatory reporting.
• Familiarity with NAIC, BMA or CIMA reporting would be advantageous.
• Experience with reinsurance accounting, investment accounting or multi-entity structures is beneficial.
• CPA qualified or working towards qualification preferred.
• Strong Excel skills and an interest in alternative investments.

Responsibilities

• Support monthly and quarterly close processes across insurance and reinsurance entities.
• Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, accruals and general ledger reporting.
• Assist with US GAAP financial statements and management reporting.
• Review investment positions, reinsurance settlements, capital movements and cash activity.
• Support statutory and regulatory reporting, including NAIC, BMA and CIMA requirements.
• Assist with quarterly and annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
• Review financial results, investigate variances and provide reporting commentary.
• Coordinate with investment, actuarial and operational teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Contribute to the development of accounting processes, reporting infrastructure and internal controls.

The Opportunity

Working within the Insurance Finance team, you will support the accounting, financial reporting and oversight of a growing portfolio of insurance and reinsurance entities and associated investment vehicles.

The position offers exposure beyond traditional insurance accounting, combining financial reporting with investment activity, reinsurance structures and complex multi-entity environments.
