Job description

Fit Recruiting is seeking an experienced Finance Manager for a respected, mission-driven nonprofit organization in Mobile, Alabama. This position will work closely with the Chief Financial and Operations Officer to support accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, grant compliance, audits, and internal controls. Salary is up to $85K, depending on experience.

The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong analytical skills and experience managing multiple financial priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day accounting and financial operations
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger activity
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
• Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Reconcile bank, credit card, grant, and balance sheet accounts
• Assist with organizational and program budgeting
• Prepare budget-to-actual reports and financial analyses
• Track grant expenditures, funding allocations, and remaining balances
• Ensure expenses are properly coded, documented, and compliant with funding requirements
• Assist with federal, state, local, and private grant reporting
• Support annual audits, government audits, and monitoring reviews
• Review payroll allocations and personnel-related expenses
• Assist with invoice processing, procurement, and vendor reconciliations
• Prepare financial reports for leadership and other stakeholders
• Help strengthen internal controls and improve financial processes
• Communicate financial information clearly to non-financial staff

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
• At least three years of progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, budgeting, and financial reporting
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• Proficiency with accounting software, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Nonprofit or fund-accounting experience
• Experience managing or monitoring federal or state grants
• Familiarity with Head Start, CACFP, or other federally funded programs
• Experience supporting annual audits and government monitoring
• Experience developing scalable financial processes and systems
