Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Finance Analyst for the Financial Leadership Program 2027 in Atlanta, GA. This full-time, two-year rotation program develops future finance leaders through four 6-month assignments, including an offsite location.

Successful participants join a permanent finance role across Corporate Finance, BU Finance, Corporate Accounting and Treasury. You will gain hands-on experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, with mentorship, training, and leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting/economics /business/math
  • Minimum GPA 3.5 preferred
  • Strong capabilities with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and financial modeling
  • Ability to adapt to changing environment, multi-task and prioritize projects
  • Strong analytic/problem-solving skills, attention to accuracy, desire to improve, team-oriented
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and interest in social/team building events
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact credibly at all levels within the company

Responsibilities

  • Partner with finance team members to prepare quarterly Board slides and memo; present materials to leadership as appropriate
  • Support the annual budgeting process, provide tracking and insight for projects to aid decisions in operations, maintenance and future spending
  • Work with pricing and commercial finance teams to analyze the impact of pricing changes and price realization assumptions
  • Perform financial modeling and return analysis for strategic projects
  • Analyze results at mill, plant, customer, product and region levels and explain variances to budgets and forecast
  • Perform month end closing and financial reporting activities, participate in inventories, review usage trends and participate in income statement and balance sheet reviews
  • Create discounted cash flow analyses for capital expenditures and other investments
  • Optimize and rationalize reporting and enhance reporting databases for consistency in financial practices
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses and work with division/segment finance teams to design value-added reporting for leadership
  • Create monthly and quarterly EBITDA bridges to quantify and explain business results; partner cross-functionally to improve bridge methodology
  • Lead projects and support key initiatives as assigned

Finance Analyst, Financial Leadership Program 2027 - Atlanta, GA

Career Opportunity:

The Financial Leadership Program (FLP) is designed to develop future Smurfit Westrock finance leaders. As a Finance Analyst, you will be a part of a full-time intensive program for two years, with four 6-month assignments of which one will be an offsite field location. Following successful completion of the program, you will be placed into a permanent department based on performance, career interest, and business needs. Departments include Corporate Finance, Business Unit Finance, Corporate Accounting and Treasury. Program benefits include a Program Sponsor, Program Mentor, senior leadership exposure, training, travel, and other events (team building, leadership and volunteer).

What you need to succeed:
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting/economics /business/math
  • Minimum of a 3.5 GPA is preferred
  • Strong capabilities with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and financial modeling capabilities
  • Ability to quickly adapt to a change in work environment, multi-task and prioritize multiple projects
  • Strong analytic/problem-solving skills, attention to accuracy, passion for improvement, and desire to work in a team/collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and potential along with interest in social/ team building events

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock across the Finance organization:
