Job summary

The School District of Lee County is seeking an Assistant Director, Financial Accounting and Property Records at our district office in Fort Myers, Florida. The role leads the accounting team and oversees district-wide financial reporting and asset records.

Responsibilities include developing accounting procedures, coordinating annual audits with external auditors, and ensuring accurate financial statements and fixed asset records for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Six years of experience in fund accounting, government financial reporting, and audit preparation.
• Experience with financial management systems and accounting software.
• Any combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain accounting procedures and internal controls.
• Inspect and analyze operations to improve procedures and support to schools and locations.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
• Coordinate district’s annual audit with external auditors and address audit findings.
• Monitor and reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies.
• Ensure accurate posting of all financial transactions and close of accounting periods.
• Manage cash flows and funding requirements including investments and bond issuances.
• Ensure proper accounting and allocation of fixed assets and property records.
• Lead meetings and provide training to district departments on accounting policies and systems.
• Participate in financial system upgrades and data integrity reviews.
