CDL - Ready Mix Truck Driver

A ready‑mix truck driver safely operates a vehicle designed to manufacture, deliver, and unload ready‑mixed concrete to meet customer satisfaction. Drivers receive work assignments from the dispatcher or plant supervisor and perform deliveries to job sites, often in difficult or congested locations. Work hours vary according to customer demand. The driver also maintains truck and plant cleanliness, shovels, and sweeps as needed. A minimum of a Class B CDL is required.

Position Overview

Operating a ready‑mix concrete truck safely and efficiently is the core responsibility. The driver must follow dispatcher instructions, adhere to OSHA and FMCSA regulations, and maintain proper communication with the plant supervisor. Daily tasks include ensuring the truck is clean, checking delivery tickets for special instructions, delivering using GPS or map books, and handling heavy mixer chutes.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Work safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain work area and vehicle in a clean, orderly condition.
  • Comply with all OSHA and USDOT/FMCSA safe‑operating practices.
  • Use supplied PPE.
  • Operate the ready‑mix truck to deliver concrete per dispatcher instructions.
  • Maintain communication with dispatcher or plant supervisor regarding deliveries.
  • Check delivery tickets for special instructions and complete as required.
  • Climb an 8‑ft ladder and handle 50‑lb mixer chutes safely; add admixtures to drum when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the truck, including rinsing the drum before and after deliveries.
  • Collect money from customers and record transactions on the receipt.
  • Read receipts, write details on tickets, and note customer information.
  • Respond to customer questions about product and basic concrete instruction.
  • Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections to ensure safe operation and report maintenance issues.
  • Utilize tablet and computer skills; follow GPS or map books.
  • Perform other functions as necessary, including truck or plant maintenance and yard work while maintaining a safe work environment.

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude toward co‑workers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends as required.
  • Work safely and efficiently without supervision.
  • Adhere strictly to Central Supply Company policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with co‑workers and assist with other duties as needed.
  • Work independently when required.
  • Maintain timely and regular attendance.
Personal Protective Equipment

Employees must wear PPE as required by OSHA and/or MSHA, including gloves, hard hat, reflective vest, safety shoes, and seatbelt.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma preferred or equivalent; or at least one year of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
  • Read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Present information effectively in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers, clients, and other employees.
Mathematical Skills
  • Perform basic arithmetic with units of American money, weight, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability
  • Apply common sense to carry out simple instructions and handle standardized situations with minimal variables.
Stress
  • Handle stressful situations while meeting customer service demands and resolving on‑job customer complaints.
Driver License & Medical Card
  • Maintain a valid DOT medical card and a state‑issued commercial driver license.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly sit, use hands, and handle tools or controls.
  • Frequently stand, walk, reach, climb, and carry up to 50 lb.
  • Navigate hot, cold, wet, and noisy work environments.
  • Maintain vision for close, distance, and depth perception, and adjust focus as needed.
  • Perform repetitive motions using fine motor skills.
Work Environment
  • Work outdoors in wet or humid conditions, extreme heat or cold.
  • Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, vibration, and moderate noise.
  • Work with moving equipment and collaborate with others.
