Job summary

Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America, Inc. is seeking a Director of Finance to safeguard the association’s financial integrity and oversee day-to-day accounting, including supervision of outsourced staff.

The role reports to the CFO and supports executive leadership with timely, accurate financial information. The ideal candidate has a strong background in accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls, with leadership experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum four-year degree in Finance/Accounting.
• CPA preferred.
• 8–10 years accounting experience including supervision of small staff.
• Experience using accounting systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products.

Responsibilities

• Support the CFO in providing financial data to the Executive Committee, Board of Directors and senior leaders.
• Manage accounting operations performed by outsourced accountants including AR, AP and monthly close.
• Liaise with for-profit accounting team.
• Prepare and publish accurate and timely monthly financial statements for IIABA and multiple subsidiaries.
• Research and collaborate with outsourced accountants on technical accounting issues for compliance.
• Analyze and communicate results of operations to internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead and/or collaborate on financial system projects.
• Manage year-end audits, working closely with external accounting firm.
• Oversight of tax filings of the Association and its subsidiaries.
• Manage and comply with local, state and federal government reporting requirements.
• Manage cash balances between related entities and disburse funds related to operations.
• Administrator of financial systems - Accounting, Reporting, Planning, Procurement.
• Design and maintain internal control over financial activities.
• Continually improve and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
• Enforce expense policies for staff discretionary spend and travel.
• Assist in coordination and direction of budget and planning.
• Timely and successful resolution to staff inquiries and needs.
• Maintain vigilance over all financial transactions and communications to avoid cyber-attack or compromise.
• Report investment activities and review compliance to investment policy.
