Job summary

AE Works seeks a Director of Finance to lead daily finance operations and deliver clear, timely financial information to leadership. This role oversees cash management, accounting, forecasting, and budgeting while partnering with executives to optimize project economics and drive operational decisions.

The candidate will guide the finance team, ensure strong internal controls, and maintain FAR compliance for federal work, reporting to the COO.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in business, accounting, finance or economics.
• 10+ years in progressive accounting/finance roles.
• Experience leading an accounting or finance function or team.
• Strong accounting fundamentals and financial statement experience.
• Experience with cash forecasting, working capital mgmt., budgeting, forecasting.
• Experience in professional services/project-based business (AEC/government contracting).
• Ability to work in detail and provide financial guidance to leadership.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with ERP systems; Unanet preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day finance and accounting functions and manage the finance team.
• Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting and strong controls.
• Provide financial insight to CEO/COO and leadership.
• Own cash forecasting and visibility into cash position.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance reporting.
• Own month-end close and ensure accuracy of statements.
• Monitor project financials: backlog, revenue, margin, billing, collections, forecast accuracy.
• Improve accessibility and quality of financial information.
• Ensure financial controls and FAR compliance for federal work.
