Job summary

Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts in New Jersey seeks a Director of Finance to lead financial strategy, reporting and analysis in a collaborative, growth‑minded nonprofit environment. The role works closely with the President/CEO and program directors to stabilize finances and fund future growth across multiple locations serving thousands of students.

The position entails overseeing budgets, audits, grants, payroll, and financial systems (QuickBooks, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Qualifications

• CPA (current preferred)
• Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
• Efficiency and strong organizational skills
• Ability to handle multiple deadlines
• Nonprofit experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Oversee budget and forecasting processes.
• Partner with CEO in formulating strategy.
• Interface with program directors on budgets and forecasts.
• Prepare financial reporting for Board committees and meetings.
• Manage student financial aid and scholarship processes.
• Provide ad hoc financial analysis for business decisions and grant reporting.
• Coordinate with Development on financial schedules for grants.
• Review monthly close and approve adjusting and closing entries.
• Manage annual audit and regulatory filings with external auditors.
• Represent the organization in banking relationships and payroll oversight.
