Job summary

Newton is seeking a Director of Finance to lead financial operations, reporting, and controls. You will ensure accuracy, compliance with IFRS, and provide strategic financial guidance to fuel growth across the organization.

You will own the monthly and annual close, oversee payroll, AP, AR, reconciliations, and drive policies and internal controls as we expand. The role works with a remote Canadian team and senior leadership.

Qualifications

• CPA certification with IFRS knowledge.
• Minimum 10 years accounting experience, incl. two busy external audit seasons.
• Experience with CIRO financial reporting requirements, including Form 1.
• Advanced Excel and MS Office proficiency.
• Experience with system conversions (Sage → QBO).
• Well-organized with the ability to prioritize.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee monthly and annual close, including supervision of the corporate accountant.
• Manage payroll, AP, AR, reconciliations, accruals, intercompany entries, and journal entries.
• Develop and implement internal controls and policies for rapid growth.
• Assess accounting issues for new business plans or product features and advise stakeholders.
• Ensure IFRS reporting compliance and assist CFO with notes.
• Coordinate tax processes and filings with tax advisors.
• Identify technical accounting issues and implement solutions.
• Maintain quality control over financial transactions and reporting.
• Document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen controls.
