The ideal candidate has 5+ years in financial/operational management, CPA/MBA preferred, and a track record in GAAP/GASB compliance, audits, and strategic financial planning.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a BA, ideally with an MBA/CPA or related degree.
• 5+ years of professional experience in financial and operations management.
• Experience in grants management and compliance for government funding.
• Ability to translate financial concepts to program teams.
• Experience overseeing audits and reporting.
• Knowledge of GAAP and GASB.
• Experience with ERP implementation and finance systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee annual budgeting and planning with the executive director; produce monthly budget vs actual reports.
• Manage cash flow and forecasting; ensure billing and collection schedules.

Job Details

Our government organization is seeking a dynamic and experienced Finance Director to join our team. This is a permanent role that will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations and financial planning of the organization. The Finance Director will play a critical role in strategic decision-making and operations as they relate to budget management, cost-benefit analysis, forecasting needs, and securing of new funding. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of all aspects of financial management within the government sector, including but not limited to financials, ledger, treasury, cash flow, annual budget, ERP implementation, balance sheet, grants, ADP, compliance, affordable housing, workforce housing, bonding, debt, payroll, procurement, AP/AR, Revenue, GAAP, and GASB.

Responsibilities

• 1. Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the executive director; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes and produce a monthly budget versus actual reports.
• 2. Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting. Implement a robust financial management/reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
• 3. Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.
• 4. Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the board of directors.
• 5. Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.
• 6. Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the ED; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes and keep the senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
• 7. Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.

Qualifications

• 1. Minimum of a BA, ideally with an MBA/CPA or related degree.
• 2. At least 5 years of overall professional experience; ideally 6+ years of broad financial and operations management experience.
• 3. The ideal candidate has experience of final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting and audit coordination for either a division or significant program area, and has preferably overseen a human resources function previously.
• 4. Ability to translate financial concepts to – and to effectively collaborate with -- programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
• 5. A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants is essential.
• 6. Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
• 7. Commitment to training programs that maximize individual and organization goals across the organization including best practices in human resources activities.
• 8. A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making.
• 9. Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
• 10. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of the organization.
• 11. Knowledge and experience in the following areas is required: financials, ledger, treasury, cash flow, annual budget, ERP implementation, balance sheet, grants, ADP, compliance, affordable housing, workforce housing, bonding, debt, payroll, procurement, AP/AR, Revenue, GAAP, GASB.
