Job summary

The City of Ludington is seeking an experienced financial professional to serve as Finance Director, reporting to the City Manager. The Finance Director leads the City's financial operations and acts as its principal financial administrator and advisor.

The role oversees accounting, budgeting, payroll, pensions, audits, grants, regulatory compliance, and long-term financial planning. A bachelor's degree in accounting or related field and several years of financial experience are required;

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
• Several years of progressively responsible financial experience.
• Municipal or governmental accounting experience preferred.
• CPA, CGFM, or related certification desirable but not required.

• Direct the City's accounting, financial reporting, and internal control functions.
• Coordinate preparation and administration of the annual operating and capital budgets.
• Oversee payroll, employee benefits, pensions, retirement reporting, grants, and restricted funds.
• Coordinate the annual independent audit and required federal, state, and local financial reports.
• Provide financial analysis, forecasts, and recommendations to the City Manager, City Council, and department heads.

The City of Ludington is seeking an experienced financial professional to serve as Finance Director. Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Finance Director leads the City's financial operations and serves as its principal financial administrator and advisor.

The Finance Director oversees accounting and financial reporting, budget administration, payroll and benefits, pensions and retirement reporting, audit coordination, grants, regulatory compliance, and long-term financial planning. The successful candidate will also be appointed as a Deputy City Clerk as required by the City Charter, providing the authority needed to carry out applicable Charter responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Direct the City's accounting, financial reporting, and internal control functions.

Coordinate preparation and administration of the annual operating and capital budgets.

Oversee payroll, employee benefits, pensions, retirement reporting, grants, and restricted funds.

Coordinate the annual independent audit and required federal, state, and local financial reports.

Provide financial analysis, forecasts, and recommendations to the City Manager, City Council, and department heads.

A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, public administration, business administration, or a related field and several years of progressively responsible financial experience are required. Municipal or governmental accounting experience is preferred. Candidates must have strong analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. CPA, CGFM, or a related certification is desirable but not required.
