Job summary

Cavender’s is seeking a Finance & Data Governance Intern to support the Finance and Accounting team with financial analysis, reporting, master data governance, and process documentation. The role offers hands-on experience with Excel, Power BI, and approved AI tools in a hybrid, part-time schedule designed to accommodate academic commitments.

The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fields, with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Analytics, Information Systems, or related field; Accounting/Finance majors preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, analytical ability, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
• High integrity and discretion with confidential information; willingness to learn and ask questions.

Responsibilities

• Support Cavender’s Culture and drive Mission, Vision, and Values.
• Perform financial and operational analyses in Excel; validate reporting and investigate discrepancies.
• Build and maintain Power BI dashboards tracking process performance, data quality, governance, and improvements.
• Assist with financial master data governance including vendor, location, COA, cost center, and mappings.
• Maintain master data files, reference tables, change logs, issue trackers, and data quality checks.
• Document data standards, ownership, approval workflows, financial processes, internal controls, and SOPs.
• Collaborate with business owners to research missing/duplicate data and track corrective actions.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen process consistency, improve controls, and reduce issues.
• Prepare management updates, analytical summaries, executive presentations, and audit-support documentation.
• Use approved AI tools to assist with documentation and analysis while protecting confidential info.
• Maintain organized process and governance documentation; follow procedures when making changes.
• Complete assigned projects on time, communicate progress, and escalate unresolved issues.
