Job summary

New Mexico Department of Health is seeking an accounting specialist to support the Financial Accounting Bureau. You will manage petty cash, journal entries, requisitions, and back-up cashier duties while ensuring accuracy and compliance.

The role requires knowledge of GASB standards, solid MS Office skills, and the ability to work with auditors. This position supports internal and external stakeholders within the department.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of SHARE Financial.
• Knowledge and application of GAAP and MAPs.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Experience preparing and coordinating reconciliations.
• Strong oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Maintain Petty Cash records and assist with monthly Cash Management Division reports.
• Prepare and enter Journal Entries (OPR, CSH, CFR and AGY) and prepare requisitions, purchase orders and vouchers.
• Back-up Cashier duties when needed and review DJ packets with Funds, Dept ID, Reporting Category, Account, Operating Unit, Budget Reference, and Class.
• Provide technical and administrative accounting support for GASB 87 (Leases) and GASB 96 (SBITAs); maintain central audit trail.
• Assist FAB with annual audit and any other assigned tasks.
• Serve internal and external auditors as customers.
