Job summary

Nevada Humane Society is seeking a Finance Associate at the Reno Campus to support the finance department with accounts payable, reporting, and donor-restricted recording. Under the CFO, you will help ensure accurate financial operations that sustain NHS programs and lifesaving work.

The role emphasizes administrative finance tasks, reconciliation, and collaboration with philanthropy and program teams to resolve discrepancies and maintain strong internal controls.

Qualifications

• Experience in accounts payable, bookkeeping, or finance administration.
• Experience entering invoices and processing financial transactions.
• Experience maintaining financial records with accuracy and supporting documentation.
• Experience preparing financial reports and transaction summaries.
• Experience handling cash, deposits, and POS reporting.

Responsibilities

• Process invoices, reimbursements, vendor payments and donations; maintain records in the accounting system.
• Record cash, checks, and card receipts with proper coding.
• Prepare and verify bank deposits and timely deposits.
• Coordinate with Philanthropy to record contributions and donor restrictions.
• Reconcile credit card statements and balance sheet accounts monthly.
• Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and budget-to-actual reports.
• Support month-end close and regulatory documentation; assist with audits.
• Assist payroll administration and related expense reports.

Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, this role provides administrative and operational support to the finance department, including accounts payable processing, financial reporting support, and maintenance of financial records.Your work helps ensure responsible stewardship of donor contributions and organizational resources, enabling NHS to provide compassionate care for pets, find them loving homes, and save lives. Through accurate financial processes and strong organizational support, the Finance Coordinator plays an important role in sustaining the programs and services that advance NHS’s mission to care for pets, find them homes and save lives.Essential ResponsibilitiesPosition-Specific ResponsibilitiesProcess invoices, reimbursements, vendor payments and incoming donations; maintain accurate records in the accounting system.Accurately record all cash, check, electronic and credit card receipts in the accounting system, ensuring proper coding to programs.Prepare and verify bank deposits, ensuring all funds received are counted, documented, and deposited in a timely manner according to internal policies.Coordinate with the Philanthropy team to ensure accurate recording of contributions and donor restrictions.Reconcile credit card statements and other balance sheet accounts monthly to ensure accuracy and completeness.Assist in preparing monthly financial statements.
