4th Sector Solutions Inc. is seeking a Finance & Accounting Manager to lead the full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of Indiana-based charter schools and nonprofits, advising executives and boards on financial management, budgets, and long-term planning.

The role focuses on expanding the firm's presence in Indiana by developing local client relationships, building a high-performing in-state team, and delivering robust financial solutions while supporting out-of-state clients as the portfolio

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Five to seven years accounting/finance experience with supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, monthly close, and financial reporting.
• Experience supervising accounting professionals.
• Proficiency with accounting systems such as Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Blackbaud, and advanced Excel.

Job description

The Finance & Accounting Manager will serve as an outsourced finance and accounting leader for a portfolio of Indiana-based charter school and nonprofit clients, leading the full-cycle accounting process and advising executive teams and boards on financial management, strategic decisions, and long-term financial planning.

This role will also help establish and grow 4th Sector Solutions’ presence in the state of Indiana by developing new client relationships, building a high-performing local accounting team, and establishing 4SS as a trusted partner within the state’s K–12 education and charter school community.

As the state portfolio develops, the Finance & Accounting Manager will initially support charter school and nonprofit clients in other states. Over time, the expectation is that an increasing portion of the individual’s portfolio and team will be based within the state.

The ideal candidate combines strong accounting and financial leadership with knowledge of the state’s K–12 education environment, an entrepreneurial mindset, and the ability to build relationships and a successful local practice.

Reports To

Director of Finance or VP of Finance; works closely with the VP of Growth and Strategy on state market development.

Finance & Accounting Leadership

• Manage the full-cycle accounting process for a portfolio of clients, including revenue, grants, accounts payable, monthly close, financial reporting, and audit management.
• Serve as a strategic financial advisor to school and nonprofit leaders, including developing budgets, forecasts, scenario models, and long-term financial strategies.
• Present financial reports, forecasts, and recommendations to executive teams, Finance Committees, and Boards.
• Lead and oversee general ledger accounting, including review of journal entries and reconciliations prepared by staff and senior accountants.
• Ensure timely and accurate monthly and year-end closes and compliance with GAAP, internal controls, grant requirements, and other applicable financial requirements.
• Lead audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors and client and 4SS personnel.
• Proactively identify financial challenges and opportunities and recommend solutions that strengthen client organizations.
• Supervise, coach, and develop staff and senior accountants assigned to the client portfolio.
• Recruit and build a high-performing finance and accounting team based within the state as the local client portfolio grows.
• Establish high standards for accounting quality, client service, accountability, and professional growth.
• Develop and improve accounting procedures, internal controls, systems, and tools that increase accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.

State Market Development & Growth

• Play a leadership role in establishing and growing 4th Sector Solutions’ presence and client base within the state.
• Develop a strong understanding of the state’s charter school, K–12 education, nonprofit, funding, regulatory, and policy environment.
• Identify and cultivate new business opportunities and help develop relationships with prospective clients.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with school and nonprofit leaders, board members, authorizers, associations, funders, policymakers, and other key stakeholders.
• Represent 4th Sector Solutions at conferences, association meetings, and other statewide convenings.
• Partner with the VP of Growth and Strategy and finance leadership to develop and execute a state-specific growth strategy.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA is a plus.
• Five to seven years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience, including at least two years in a supervisory or lead role.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, GAAP, monthly close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, audits, and internal controls.
• Experience supervising and developing accounting professionals.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to explain financial information to organizational leaders and boards.
• Proficiency with accounting systems such as Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Blackbaud, or similar platforms, as well as advanced Excel skills.
• Ability to manage multiple clients and priorities and willingness to support out-of-state charter school and nonprofit clients while the state portfolio grows.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build relationships, identify opportunities, and contribute to the growth of a new market.

Strongly Preferred

• Prior accounting or financial leadership experience with charter schools, public K–12 schools, school districts, or education organizations within the state.
• Knowledge of the state’s K–12 funding, accounting, financial reporting, grant, and regulatory environment.
• Existing relationships within the state’s charter school, K–12 education, nonprofit, government, or philanthropic communities—or demonstrated success building similar networks.
• Experience with charter school or nonprofit accounting, including public funding, grants, compliance, and audits.
• Experience helping build a team, organization, business line, or new market.
