Job description

About the Role

CarGurus Finance is seeking a curious, analytical student to join us as a Finance AI Solutions Intern. You will help Finance teams identify repetitive, data-intensive work and pilot responsible AI and automation solutions that improve speed, accuracy, and insight.

You will own a primary, high-impact project with a Finance partner while gaining exposure to Accounting, FP&A, Tax, Finance Operations, and Procurement. Along the way, you will learn how a public-company Finance organization evaluates new technology: not only whether it works, but whether it is accurate, reviewable, secure, and scalable.

This is an opportunity to build a portfolio of practical work at the intersection of finance, data, process improvement, and AI, while receiving mentorship from Finance leaders.

As a Finance AI Solutions Intern, you will join a 11-week Summer Internship Program designed to give you hands‑on experience, expand your professional network, and build core industry skills. This full‑time opportunity (40 hours per week) runs from June through August 2027. CarGurus operates on a hybrid working model, and candidates should expect to work out of our Boston, MA office 60% of the time (approximately three days per week).

What You'll Do
  • Partner with a Finance team to map a manual or data‑intensive workflow and identify opportunities to improve it through AI, automation, or better analytics.
  • Build and test a scoped prototype using various LLMs and approved tools such as Excel or Google Sheets, SQL, or workflow‑automation platforms.
  • Conduct research and analysis to support use cases such as reconciliations, exception review, variance analysis, vendor and spend analysis, contract or invoice data extraction, and finance‑operations inquiries.
  • Validate outputs with process owners; document assumptions, review steps, limitations, and measurable impact.
  • Support Finance and Internal Controls stakeholders in documenting appropriate guardrails for selected AI‑assisted workflows, including human review, evidence retention, and audit trails.
  • Work with partners across Finance and, as needed, teams such as Sales Operations, Collections, and Finance Systems to understand data flows and improve processes responsibly.
  • Present your project outcomes, recommendations, and measured business impact to Finance leadership at the end of the internship.
What You'll Bring
  • You are currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, and are eligible to complete a full‑time summer internship.
  • You have strong analytical and problem‑solving skills and enjoy understanding how processes work before improving them.
  • You are proficient in Excel or Google Sheets and comfortable working with structured data.
  • You are curious about AI and automation and interested in applying them responsibly in a business setting.
  • You communicate clearly in writing and in conversation, and can explain an analysis or recommendation to both technical and business audiences.
  • You are organized, detail‑oriented, self‑directed, and comfortable working through ambiguity with guidance from experienced teammates.
  • You have an interest in finance, accounting, operations, or how businesses use data to make decisions.
Helpful, But Not Required
  • Coursework, academic projects, campus employment, or prior internship experience involving data analysis, prompt design, or workflow automation.
  • Experience using AI tools to research, analyze data, draft content, or streamline a recurring task.
  • Familiarity with CRM, ERP, billing, BI, or financial systems such as Salesforce, NetSuite, Zuora, Looker, or similar platforms.
  • Exposure to internal controls, audit, risk, or compliance concepts.
