We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist III to join our team. The Accounting Specialist III is responsible for managing complex federal and state reimbursement billing processes, maintaining accurate project funding records, and supporting audit readiness. This role requires a high level of precision, analytical thinking, and collaboration to ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal standards.
Essential Duties:
- Process PSFT(Peoplesoft) summary journal vouchers (SJVs) to reallocate expenses and update funding records with accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain compliance with audit requirements by preparing and submitting accurate documentation for state, federal, and internal reviews.
- Assist with weekly FHWA reimbursement including pre bill analysis and reimbursement requests.
- Perform monthly NHTSA, FAA, FTA reimbursement billing, including pre-billing analysis, federal balance verification, and data entry into Federal Systems.
- Prepare and process miscellaneous reimbursement billings (e.g., NHTSA-FARS, FRA) addressing inquiries professionally with minimal supervision.
- Coordinate with respective divisions to resolve deferred projects and ensure timely payments.
- Assist with various tasks across the Federal Billing & Project Funding branch, including end-of-year reconciliations, Time and Labor processing, and federal project funding accuracy.
- Analyze and troubleshoot PSFT PC funding records, including support for projects with apparent overruns and cross-team assistance as needed.
- Collaborate with team members to promote a positive and supportive work environment, resolving issues constructively and communicating effectively.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business-related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience: 2 years accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, auditing experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, etc. highly preferred.
