Job summary

Lockheed Martin - Space Systems in Rockville, MD is seeking a Final Inspector for a 12-month contract to visually inspect electronic units, subassemblies and mechanical parts, using blueprints, gauges and microscopes. This role supports Engineering and Manufacturing on prototypes and new product integrations.

Candidates must have an Associate degree with QA experience, IPC certifications, and eligibility for a U.S. Secret clearance.

Qualifications

  • Active DOD Secret clearance eligibility required; U.S. citizenship.
  • Associates degree with 5 years QA experience in electro-mechanical manufacturing or aerospace.
  • Certification in IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620 w/ space, J-STD-001 w/ space, NASA-STD-8739.1.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and acceptance criteria for aerospace components.
  • Experience inspecting electronic components, PCB assemblies, and electro-mechanical parts.
  • Ability to read engineering docs, blueprints, process charts and travelers.
  • Experience with hand-held inspection equipment and microscopy.
  • Contribute to root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Hands-on with prototypes and new product introductions; detailed inspections.
  • 2-4 years in Quality, 2-4 in QA/QC, 4-6 in Quality Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect visually in-process and finished products using prescribed specifications.
  • Use various measuring devices and accept/reject units.
  • Work from blueprints, diagrams, and inspection instructions.
  • Monitor and verify quality per control procedures.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing on prototypes and NPI.

Job Description & Responsibilities
  • Uses predetermined methods, operations, setups and prescribed specifications to inspect visually in-process and completed products such as electronic units and subsystems, precision electromechanical assemblies or mechanical units, subassemblies, and internal defects.
  • Uses various measuring devices. Accepts, rejects, malfunctioning units or systems.
  • Works from blueprints, diagrams, dial indicators, micrometers, scales, fixtures, customer specifications, drawing or inspection instructions and checklists.
  • May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
  • This opportunity involves working closely with the Engineering and Manufacturing team to build prototypes, support New Product Integration (NPI) and productions builds.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain an Active DOD Secret Clearance, requires U.S. Citizenship
  • Associates Technology Degree with 5 years of Electro-Mechanical Manufacturing Quality Assurance Engineering experience and/or 5 years of Aerospace/NASA Industry Quality inspection experience.
  • Certification in the relevant workmanship standards, such as: IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620 w/space addendum, J-STD-001 w/space addendum, NASA-STD-8739.1, etc.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and acceptance criteria for Aerospace components such as cable harness, mechanical assembly, printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies and soldering.
  • Experience with hands-on inspection of electronic components, printed circuit boards, electronic assemblies, fabricated mechanical parts and Electro-Mechanical Assemblies.
  • Ability to understand and follow Engineering and Quality documentation, drawing/blueprints, process flow charts, manufacturing travelers, and work instructions.
  • Experience using Electro/Mechanical hand-held inspection equipment, Microscopes/magnifiers
  • Understand and contribute to performance metric reporting.
  • Assist in helping to determine Root Cause and Corrective Action activities.
  • Must be hands on with prototype and new product/process introduction builds.
  • Must be able to perform highly detailed, in-process and Final Inspection activities.
  • 2 - 4 years of experience in Quality
  • 2 - 4 years of experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control
  • 4 - 6 years of experience in Quality Systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous work experience in a Quality Inspection role in support of Aerospace/NASA Programs.
  • Experience identifying process and product yield trends.
  • Ability to tailor level of effort based on customer requirements and expectations.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Understands AS9100 Quality Management System Requirements
  • Experience working in a Manufacturing and Engineering Lab environment. Some lab areas may require lab coat and additional gear to support of the lab’s cleanliness requirements.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment under deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.
