Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a skilled Assembly Team Lead to manage rocket engine assembly operations in Huntsville, AL. You will recruit, coach, plan shifts, monitor labor hours, and drive quality, safety, and cost improvements in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

You'll collaborate with engineers to refine assembly processes, ensure 5S and FOD controls, maintain equipment, and uphold rigorous documentation and training records across multiple shifts.

  • Managing personnel, including recruiting, quarterly performance reviews, coaching, scheduling, and overtime monitoring.
  • Promoting teamwork and maintaining employee morale.
  • Managing resource projections and assignments to meet schedules.
  • Providing status updates on hardware deliveries at daily meetings.
  • Developing training and maintaining training records.
  • Interfacing with engineers to improve assembly procedures.
  • Working with engineering to develop processes and evaluate equipment, safety, and cost.
  • Ensuring products meet quality standards per released engineering.
  • Maintaining stock of consumables.
  • Ensuring tools and equipment are maintained and calibrated.
  • Ensuring proper 5S and FOD controls are in place.
  • Working safely with hazardous chemicals and high pressure.
  • Willing to work all shifts.

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished group of experts, you will be responsible for leading a team dedicated to rocket engine assembly. Your expertise will also drive improvements for rocket engine component design, maintenance, and refurbishment. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable human spaceflight. Responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Ability to document and maintain accurate records, as well as read drawings and prints.
  • Ability to use standard tools and basic fabrication equipment.
  • Experience assembling and troubleshooting aerospace or military hardware.
  • Familiarity with proper disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Attention to detail, passion for space and for success.
Desired
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight critical hardware.
  • Knowledge of drawing and work order review and familiarity with inventory and issue tracking systems.
  • Experience with wire harnesses, torque tools, ESD handling.
Physical Requirements
  • Climb ladders and stairs
  • Lift and carry 50 lbs. for limited durations
  • Work schedule may vary and depend on hardware and testing
  • Remain flexible by working overtime and weekends (when necessary)
