Job description

Pediatric Search Partners is seeking a board certified, fellowship-trained Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician to lead as Section Chief for the Section of Emergency Medicine at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, the first and only freestanding, academic, not-for-profit children’s hospital in San Antonio. This position is employed by Baylor College of Medicine and comes with a faculty appointment within the Department of Pediatrics along with competitive salary and full benefits package. The successful candidate’s credentials and experience will determine the rank of the academic appointment.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include the provision of care to critically ill and injured children in an Emergency Department setting as well as teaching fellows, residents, medical students and staff; and overseeing the section and its administrative initiatives.

Qualifications

• MD/DO degree; Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Trained
• Licensed by the Texas Medical Board (or eligible for same)
• Board certified in General Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics
• Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
• Previous leadership experience required

Serving as a focal point for pediatric services throughout the community, The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, part of the CHRISTUS Health System, is a world-class children’s hospital – both inside and out. In February 2013, The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio finalized agreements with Texas’ top pediatric medical providers, Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, ranked as the #4 children’s hospital in the country by U.S. News & World Report in 2020-21. Baylor College of Medicine employs and oversees physicians. In total, Children’s Hospital of San Antonio employs 1,000 staff members, including a 400-nurse team who earned Magnet designation in 2018.

The first pediatric emergency room (ER) in San Antonio and part of the CHRISTUS Health System, Children’s Hospital of San Antonio provides emergency care to newborns all the way up to age 17 and maintains the city’s only emergency centers dedicated to children, one in Westover Hills and the other in the heart of San Antonio. The main hospital location in San Antonio has a Level III pediatric trauma designation. In a typical year, Children’s Hospital of San Antonio provides care during a total of 80,000 emergency department visits (including both locations). Children who require additional outpatient services based on their ER visits may be referred to one of the pediatric subspecialists who are part of the Baylor College of Medicine.
