Job Title: Managing Optometrist
FLSA Status: 1099
Reports To: CEO
Position Purpose:

Provide stellar patient care through proper diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions and diseases. Examine eyes, diagnose problems, prescribe corrective lenses, and provide treatment, including therapeutic drugs for specific eye conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Prescribe medications, low vision rehabilitation, vision therapy, spectacle lenses, and contact lenses.
  2. Counsel patients on surgical and non-surgical options tailored to their visual needs.
  3. Identify patients' eyewear needs and recommend appropriate products.
  4. Conduct eye exams and provide vision services.
  5. Treat conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
  6. Prescribe and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses.
  7. Provide low vision aids and vision therapy.
  8. Diagnose eye conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and conjunctivitis.
  9. Prescribe medications for certain eye conditions as permitted by state guidelines.
  10. Participate in pre- and post-operative care for surgeries.
  11. Communicate effectively with patients and obtain detailed case histories.
  12. Advise and reassure patients on vision-related issues.
  13. Write referral communications to other doctors.
  14. Coordinate with other medical practitioners for patients with chronic ophthalmic conditions.
  15. Transition patients to optical services, communicating prescription details to opticians or eyewear consultants.
  16. Meet sales targets related to spectacle or contact lens sales.
Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited school.
  • Successful completion of the National Board examination and a state clinical exam.
  • Business acumen, self-discipline, tactfulness with patients.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
