Job Description
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Practice safety rules.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Safely use hand & power tools.
- Report to and assist the immediate supervisor.
- Perform quality work as per project specifications.
- Be accountable for all tools and materials at the end of your shift.
- Work well as part of a team.
- Measure distances from grade stakes.
- Drive stakes.
- Stretch tight lines.
- Grade stacks from lumber for reuse.
- Level earth to fine grade specifications with shovel to assist in pipe laying, and preparing subgrades and other excavations.
- Direct other laborers in dumping concrete into forms.
- Erect shoring and braces and paint pipe joints with sealing compound.
- Assist in setting pumps and well-points.
- May assist heavy construction equipment operators in aligning and moving equipment such as cranes, power shovels, and backhoes, verifying grades, and signaling operators to conform to grade specifications.
- Direct truck drivers and scraper operators to dumping positions to maintain grades as directed by the Foreman.
- Work in a concrete paving crew, adjusting concrete in front of finishing machines to meet grade.
- Occasionally use small power tools.
- May serve as lead man in a labor crew.
- Exercise independent judgment to plan routine work, accepting responsibility for multiple phases without supervision.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Comply with company’s drug and alcohol policy.
- Pass physical examinations as required.
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Carry up to 50 lbs. of tools/materials; seek assistance for heavier items.
- Work long hours on feet on uneven surfaces.
- Wear protective equipment as required, including respirators.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Some industrial/construction/general labor experience.
- Post-offer drug/alcohol screening and physical evaluation.
- Complete a New Hire Quiz.
- Must not pose a safety threat to self or others.
- Meet site safety requirements (e.g., PPE, attire).
