Position Title: Fifth Grade Language Arts/Social Studies Teacher

Job Description

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the District's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in IEPs.
  • Work with other staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to District requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities.
  • Be a positive role model and support the mission of the school district.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Maintain open communication through conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information clearly and accurately.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve skills.
  • Stay informed of and comply with regulations and policies.
  • Maintain required reports, records, and documents.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Assignments to Virtual Instruction
  • Integrate district-approved online learning platforms into virtual instruction.
  • Plan, prepare, implement, and evaluate lessons during standard and extended hours.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff during and outside regular hours.
  • Adhere to professional responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Be flexible, responsive, and positive.
  • Translate district best practices into virtual settings.
  • Participate in professional development for virtual instruction.
  • Report student data accurately and timely.
  • Dress professionally and create a conducive virtual classroom environment.
  • Provide small group and tutoring support.
  • Support extracurricular activities as responsible.
  • Attend all required meetings.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with endorsements for the subject and level
  • Valid ESL certification

Additional Information

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).
