Base pay range

$80,000.00/yr - $100,000.00/yr

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Allen-Stevenson School, in New York City, seeks a Fifth Grade Advisor and History Teacher beginning in August 2025. The successful candidate has a minimum of three years teaching in a related grade and a master’s degree in education. The successful candidate has a strong background and knowledge of the fifth-grade disciplines, particularly history; works to build an inclusive classroom and advisory; integrates technology; and demonstrates high energy and creativity. An understanding and appreciation of how boys learn best, especially the role that personal connection plays, is essential.

This full-time position is eligible for a complete benefits package.

Compensation: $80,000-$100,000commensurate with education and experience.

Reports to: Head of Upper Division

Education: Master's degree preferred

Experience: 3 years teaching at the elementary level

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the school’s educational mission and vision by challenging, engaging, and nurturing students towards deeper learning
  • Develop and nurture meaningful connections with students so they feel welcome, valued, understood and seen
  • Teaching and execute proficiently lessons for history
  • Collaborate enthusiastically as a member of the history department
  • Create lessons and projects that are inclusive of the diversity in our community
  • Serve as an Advisor: cultivate an inclusive, warm classroom community; teach the fifth-grade advisory curriculum; oversee the academic, extracurricular and social experience of students; and create strong, responsive working relationships with parents
  • Use technology effectively and appropriately to enhance student learning in the classroom and for virtual lessons as necessary
  • Assess student performance using formative and summative tools, as well as rubrics, and provide regular academic updates, grades, and comments for report cards
  • Conduct and organize parent conferences
  • Collaborate with division and team members with flexibility, creativity and humor to develop program, ensure student success and nurture community
  • Create and teach clubs for students in multiple grades
  • Supervise clubs, class trips, daily recess and lunch duties
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely fashion with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues
  • Perform additional duties and participate in the life of the school
