Foothill Packing Inc in Yuma, Arizona is looking for irrigators and agricultural equipment operators. Responsibilities include performing irrigation work, operating tractors, and maintaining farm equipment.
The ideal candidates should pass tractor safety training and demonstrate capability in tractor operation and maintenance, as well as working efficiently in various physical conditions.
Irrigators: Under the supervision of the Supervisor/Foreperson, performs general irrigation work of vegetable fields via drip/sprinkler irrigation; drip irrigation installation, repair and maintenance; and sprinkler installation, repair and maintenance. Responsible for starting and stopping surface and subsurface irrigation with syphon tubes, monitoring the elevation in head water by opening and closing irrigation gates, and assisting in starting and stopping pumps for surface and subsurface drip irrigated fields. Performs maintenance in and around vegetable fields such as bird control, weeding around irrigation valves, borders and trash removal. Tractor driving activities for sprinkler irrigation pipe. Reports breakdowns and adheres to safety procedures and performance standards. Capable of filling out maintenance and progression sheets. Basic knowledge of driving a tractor; must pass tractor safety training and demonstrate the ability to operate a tractor safely.
Workers will drive and operate various farm equipment to perform farm field preparation such as planting, cultivating, fertilizing, farming, and maintaining farms. Will attach and adjust farm implements to tractors such as discs, plows, lasers, rippers, cultivators, listers and planters and ensure equipment is operating properly at optimum performance. Conduct daily maintenance checks prior to operating the tractor; monitor and drive tractors safely and efficiently over difficult terrain. Must have sufficient knowledge of tractor mechanics to make simple and minor adjustments and repairs. Understand and operate the GPS operating system. Must pass tractor safety training and demonstrate ability to operate tractors safely. Workers may occasionally perform duties related to cleaning up field before, during, and after harvest, and picking up trash. Will perform all operations related to sprinkler pipe irrigation, maintenance, and storage, including unstacking irrigation pipes from seasonal storage yards and restacking them onto portable trailers and installing them into fields. Also required to remove sprinklers from fields and stack them in portable trailers.
In the event of an injury on the job, the Company will provide a temporary work assignment closely related to the described duties while the employee recovers, pending physician clearance to return to work under medical restrictions. The assignment is temporary and not permanent, and will accommodate the injured worker under doctor’s restrictions and time period that may differ from the heavy field work described herein.
All work requires an able-bodied person to lift up to 60 lbs., handle odd shapes, push/pull, walk on uneven ground all day, and have good eyesight for plant identification and determining where to harvest and where to make cuts. Requires good personal hygiene and appropriate clothing and shoes for working in heat, cold, or outdoors. Ability to take and follow instructions and use safety equipment correctly. If operating machines or driving, must safely and carefully operate equipment for which they are trained and authorized.
