Job summary

Yellowstone Forever (YF) is the official nonprofit partner of Yellowstone National Park. The Biological Technician will support wildlife research, conservation, and park management in a remote backcountry environment.

The role involves field data collection on wolves, elk, cougars, and birds, with telemetry and optics, and requires strong teamwork, communication, and adaptability in diverse conditions.

Qualifications

• Team player with strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and work quickly in demanding settings.
• Self-motivated with solid problem-solving and task completion approach.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including nights/weekends.
• Experience with GPS and topographic maps for backcountry navigation.

Responsibilities

• Track and record data on wolves, elk, cougars and birds using telemetry and optics.
• Plan and execute established natural resource management projects in the field.
• Collect field data using standardized procedures and equipment.
• Prepare draft reports with methods, data analysis, graphs, and recommendations.
• Provide logistical support for contract scientists; ensure quality control.
• Install, operate and maintain field equipment; manage inventories and parts.
• Educate and interact with park visitors in formal and informal settings.
• Travel within Yellowstone and Greater Yellowstone area as required.
