Job summary

The City of Edmonds is seeking a Meter Reader to accurately read residential and commercial water meters, input readings, and detect leaks. This role requires daytime fieldwork, driving a city vehicle, and interacting with residents to explain readings and billing concerns.

New hires start at a designated wage within the city pay scale; placement depends on qualifications and experience. A valid WA driver's license is required, along with safety certifications and a pre-employment background

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED with customer service/clerical experience
• WA Driver's License required; clean driving record
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogen training within 2 years
• Flagger Certification within 3 years
• Criminal background check required; pre-employment drug screen

Responsibilities

• Read, record and input water consumption data from residential and commercial meters
• Operate handheld portable computer and monitor readings for anomalies
• Notify billing when irregularities occur; access meter locations and clear obstructions
• Maintain access to meters and inspect for damage or unauthorized connections
• Replace meters and meter boxes as needed
• Report new sprinkler systems or broken/leaking meters
• Maintain records and upload/download data sheets
• Reroute meters as needed and submit data to processing
• Investigate customer complaints and coordinate with supervisor
