Job summary

University of Texas at Austin Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, TX is seeking a qualified Small Boat Operator to support marine research operations. You will safely operate small vessels (<30' ) during sampling trips, transport personnel and equipment, and assist with instruments deployment and recovery.

Responsibilities include routine vessel maintenance, keeping boats, trailers, and engines in good order, and training graduate students and staff on boat operation and washdown.

Qualifications

  • At least five years of trailering, launching, and retrieving boats.
  • Mechanical work and electrical experience on trailers/boats.
  • USCG OUPV six-pack license (50 gross tons Master near-coastal waters or higher) preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Operate boats during sampling trips to assist UTMSI researchers.
  • Teach grad students and UT staff how to operate and wash boats properly.
  • Perform routine vessel maintenance and assist with repairs as needed.
  • Boat, trailer, engine maintenance and repair.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
