The technician will be deployed to customer locations across the United States and must be able to troubleshoot, perform repairs, and communicate findings professionally and accurately.

The technician will be deployed to customer locations across the United States and must be able to troubleshoot, perform repairs, and communicate findings professionally and accurately.
The Field Service Technician requires a high degree of flexibility and travel, often on short notice, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high service standards. The Field Service Technician represents the company in the field and is expected to deliver a high level of customer service, maintaining a professional demeanor and adhering to white glove service expectations when interacting with transit agencies, fleet operators, and maintenance teams.
Essential Duties
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on transit buses at customer locations.
- Perform field inspections, component replacements, system calibrations, and adjustments in response to service requests or bus failures.
- Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate with internal technical support teams and engineering when resolving complex or repeat issues.
- Provide clear documentation of work performed, including service reports, parts used, and repair recommendations.
- Maintain strong, professional communication with customers, ensuring expectations are managed and issues are addressed promptly.
- Uphold a high level of service quality and adherence to safety standards, delivering white glove service on behalf of the company.
- Manage travel logistics, tools, and service equipment while ensuring readiness for rapid deployment. This may include Flights and Overnight Stays as needed.
- Train or guide customer personnel on proper operation or maintenance when applicable.
- Support warranty evaluations and assist with root cause analysis of product issues in the field.
- Follow all company policies, DOT regulations, and safety procedures during travel and on-site assignments.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues in field conditions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in heavy-duty vehicle systems (diesel and CNG engines, transmissions, air brakes, suspensions, electrical systems, etc.).
- Proficient in using diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve issues (e.g., Cummins Insite, Allison DOC, OEM-specific platforms).
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, service manuals, and engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory compliance related to vehicle maintenance and field service operations.
- Skilled in performing field repairs under variable conditions with limited resources or oversight.
- Effective troubleshooting and critical thinking skills; able to assess complex problems and determine root cause.
- Strong customer service orientation with the ability to maintain professionalism in high-pressure or time-sensitive situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with customers and document service activities clearly.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with mobile work order systems, field reporting tools, and service documentation practices.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including overnight stays and emergency response assignments.
- Physical ability to lift, move, and operate tools and equipment in a variety of field environments.
Education, And/or Required Licenses
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in diesel technology, automotive repair, or a related field strongly preferred.
- Associate degree in Diesel Technology, Automotive Engineering, or related discipline is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license required; clean driving record required.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with air brake endorsement preferred or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- ASE certifications in relevant areas (e.g., T-Series for Transit Bus, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Brakes, Diesel Engines) are preferred.
- OEM certifications (e.g., Cummins, Allison, ZF, or other transit-specific systems) are highly desirable.
- Must be able to meet travel eligibility requirements, including any customer-specific onboarding or background checks.

The salary range reflected on the job positing is our good faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. While we do not typically hire at the top of the salary range, initial offers are based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience, with opportunities for growth and increases over time.
The hiring range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00 an hour
