Job summary

Hanover County Government is seeking a Utility Technician to perform routine repairs on utility equipment across electrical/mechanical, construction, sewer collection, and distribution operations. The role participates in the county’s Career Development Program ladder and reports to a Utility Supervisor or Superintendent.

Essential duties include operating tools and vehicles, ensuring safety compliance, troubleshooting emergencies, maintaining records, and performing preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Operates and organizes the use of utility tools, equipment, and vehicles.
• Assures all safety regulations are met (e.g. VDOT standards for traffic control and flags traffic).
• Troubleshoots and helps manage emergency situations.
• Maintains maintenance records and completes work orders.
• Conducts preventive maintenance and repairs (Electrical/Mechanical).
• Maintains, installs and repairs utility electrical/mechanical equipment.
• Repairs and installs water and sewer lines; operates construction equipment.
• Cleans wastewater lines/lift stations, films lines and laterals; operates lift stations.
• Maintains and flushes waterlines; collects and analyzes water samples; calibrates residential meters and tests pressure.
