Job summary

City of Panama City Beach is seeking an Underground Utilities Locator II / Trainee to locate underground lines, operate locating equipment, and assist in field inspections for new subdivisions.

The role requires knowledge of locating principles, map reading, GIS data input, and strong communication with contractors and public. Valid driver’s license and progression toward relevant licenses are expected.

Qualifications

• Must have a standard high school diploma/GED or vocational training.
• For trainee: begin work to obtain FDEP Water Distribution System Operator License, Level 3 and Wastewater Collection System Operator License Level C.
• Locator I: must have HS diploma and licenses Level 3 and Level C and 2 years of underground locator experience.
• Locator II: HS diploma and licenses Level 2 and Level B and 5 years of locator experience.

Responsibilities

• Receives and processes locate requests.
• Determines locations of water, sewer, and reclaimed water lines.
• Operates locating equipment and technology.
• Assists contractors and utility providers in locating mains and valves.
• Marks utility locations.
• Reads maps and blueprints; provides GIS data input and data verification.
• Prepares logs and reports.
• Assists in inspection and testing of lines for new subdivisions.
• Performs related duties.
