Job summary

Fisher Associates in Pittsburgh seeks an experienced field inspector to support transportation projects. You will perform field inspections to verify alignment with plans, sample soils, concrete, and asphalt, and document results.

The role requires outdoor work, strong reporting, and adherence to safety standards on active sites. Ideal candidates hold a related bachelor’s degree, have construction inspection experience, and can navigate PennDOT requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Environmental or related field.
• Experience in field inspections or construction quality assurance.
• Familiarity with roadway, bridge, or heavy civil construction (PennDOT experience preferred).
• Strong attention to detail with solid documentation and communication skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in active construction environments and hold a valid driver’s license.
• Certifications such as ACI Field Testing Technician, NICET Highway Construction, PennDOT Concrete, NECEPT Asphalt are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections to ensure construction aligns with plans, specifications, and applicable standards.
• Collect materials samples (soil, concrete, asphalt) and document testing results.
• Monitor construction quality, progress, and workmanship.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, logs, and photo documentation.
• Identify and communicate non-conformance issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with PennDOT, local, and federal requirements.
• Observe, document, and report job-site safety concerns.
