Job summary

UES, a leading geotechnical engineering and environmental services firm, seeks a Field Technician II to support field and lab testing, inspections, and documentation for diverse projects. Qualifications

• High school diploma required; vocational training in construction, engineering, geology, or related field preferred.
• 3+ years of field-based experience in materials testing, construction inspection, geotechnical fieldwork, or related.
• ACI Level 1 Concrete Testing certification preferred or ability to obtain within a specified time period.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; ability to safely operate company vehicles.
• Commitment to safety and adherence to OSHA regulations, industry best practices, and company safety policies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Field Data Collection (FDC) software or similar tools.
• Mathematical skills to perform basic arithmetic in all units of measure.
• Ability to read, write, and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
• Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform field testing on soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and other construction materials per project specs and industry standards.
• Ensure testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications and company policies.
• Collect, label, and transport material samples to laboratories for analysis, maintaining sample integrity.
• Maintain testing equipment and ensure proper functioning per guidelines.
• Complete detailed test reports, logs, and documentation and submit to project managers.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, field staff, contractors, and managers with real-time updates on job status and site conditions.
• Mentor and support junior field technicians on procedures, testing methods, and safety practices.
• Follow OSHA, company, and client safety protocols and PPE usage.
• Adapt to changing project needs, including early mornings, weekends, or overnight work.
• Operate and maintain assigned company vehicle and schedule routine maintenance.
• Travel to job sites within the region, potentially overnight, and flex schedules based on project demands.
• Perform additional duties to support company initiatives and project success.

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and safety‑conscious Field Technician II to support engineering, environmental services, materials testing, and inspection projects. As a Field Technician II, you will perform advanced field and laboratory testing, conduct on‑site inspections, and ensure construction, infrastructure, and environmental projects meet industry standards and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong problem‑solving skills, technical expertise, and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced field environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform field testing on soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and other construction materials, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Ensure that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures.
• Collect, label, and transport material samples to laboratories for analysis, following proper procedures to maintain sample integrity.
• Ensure all testing equipment is properly maintained and functioning correctly, following manufacturer and company guidelines.
• Complete detailed reports, logs, and documentation of test results, ensuring accuracy and timely submission to project managers and stakeholders.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, field supervisors, contractors, and project managers, providing real‑time updates on job status, site conditions, and any issues encountered.
• Mentor and support junior field technicians, providing guidance on field procedures, testing methods, and safety best practices.
• Follow all OSHA, company, and client safety protocols, ensuring strict adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, hazard awareness, and field safety guidelines.
• Adapt to changing project requirements and schedules, including early morning, weekend, or overnight work as needed.
• Operate and maintain assigned company vehicle, including scheduling routine maintenance and ensuring proper upkeep.
• Travel to job sites within the designated region, which may require overnight stays based on project needs.
• Flexibility to work variable schedules, including early mornings, weekends, overtime, and potential overnight travel based on project demands.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support company initiatives and project success.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or coursework in construction, engineering, geology, or a related field preferred.
• 3+ years of field‑based experience in materials testing, construction inspection, geotechnical fieldwork, or a related industry.
• Industry certifications such as ACI Level 1 Concrete Testing preferred or ability to obtain within a specified time period.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; ability to safely operate company vehicles.
• Commitment to safety and adherence to OSHA regulations, industry best practices, and company safety policies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Field Data Collection (FDC) software or similar industry tools.
• Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to read, write, and interpret blueprints, procedures, manuals, technical documents, and reports related to drilling, safety, and project requirements.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong time‑management, organizational, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to complete tasks efficiently and accurately.

Travel Requirements

This position requires extensive travel, approximately up to 70% of the time, in support of business objectives and client engagements. Travel may be both scheduled and on short notice, depending on project needs. Destinations typically include job sites, field locations, or regional offices, where work may be conducted in outdoor or operational environments. Adherence to all company safety protocols and use of PPE is required during travel and on‑site work.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position primarily works in an outdoor work environment, regularly exposed to varying field conditions, including:

• Sites that may not be accessible by vehicle, requiring travel on foot through wetlands, swamps, grasslands, fields, and other uneven or rugged terrain with natural and man‑made obstacles such as sand, brush, and debris.
• Moderate to loud noise levels, common in active construction and industrial environments.
• Exposure to environmental elements including dirt, dust, sun, heat, humidity, and adverse weather conditions.

The physical requirements for this position may include and are not limited to:

• Ability to lift and/or carry 35 to 50 lbs. up to 75 feet, involving regular repetitive motion.
• Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate equipment for extended periods.
• Frequent use of hands and arms for typing, handling tools, and operating equipment.
• Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, lift, carry, and push as required for fieldwork and inspections.
• Ability to speak and hear effectively to communicate in noisy environments and with project teams.
• Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth vision, and ability to focus), smell, hear, touch (use hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel, and sit).
