Job summary

Alaska Communications is seeking a Field Technician to install and maintain services across Alaska, including copper, fiber, wireless, and microwave infrastructure. The role covers both remote and non-remote work areas with a focus on network reliability.

Candidates must hold a high school diploma and a valid driver’s license, plus completing a relevant apprentice program or equivalent with journeyman level experience. DOT/Drug testing may apply.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma and a valid driver’s license.
• Four years training in a relevant telephone apprentice program or equivalent, with two years in the shown skills.
• Ability to operate needed equipment and read schematics/diagrams.
• Ability to climb poles and differentiate colors.

Responsibilities

• Complete service orders, repair orders, capital work orders, and maintenance work.
• Complete Line Station Transfers and cuts.
• Install and qualify data cabling to current specifications.
• Install business and residential station wiring and establish the demarcation point.
• Perform preventive maintenance to identify deterioration in service.
• Install aerial and underground drops and locate underground drops.
• Splice to plant as required and fix wiring deficiencies.
