Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking dependable AV/Low Voltage Cable Technicians to support commercial audiovisual and structured cabling projects in the Wilmington, NC area. This contract-to-hire role focuses on installing and testing low-voltage cabling, AV gear, fiber, and network infrastructure.

You will read blueprints, follow safety policies, and collaborate with project managers on-site. Local travel is involved and the position offers paid overtime at 1.5x and a clear path to permanent employment.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience in low-voltage cabling, structured cabling, AV installation, telecommunications, or related field.
• Experience pulling, routing, terminating, and testing copper or fiber cabling.
• Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
• Familiarity with commercial construction environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on ladders or lifts when required.
• Reliable transportation and valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Install, route, dress, and terminate CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, coaxial, and fiber optic cabling.
• Install and support audiovisual systems including displays and video conferencing equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and wiring diagrams.
• Install cable pathways including J-hooks, cable tray, conduit, and surface raceway.
• Perform cable testing, labeling, and documentation.
• Terminate and test network cabling and fiber optic infrastructure.
• Assist with rack buildouts, rack-and-stack activities, and equipment installations.
• Perform troubleshooting and repair of AV and low-voltage systems.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas and adhere to project schedules.
• Follow all safety policies, customer requirements, and quality standards.
• Collaborate with project managers, lead technicians, and customer stakeholders.

AV/Low Voltage Cable Technician

Location: Wilmington, NC

Duration: 12-Month Contract to Hire

Pay Rate: $19.00 - $24.00/hr

Overtime: Paid at 1.5x Rate

Travel: Local Wilmington-based projects with occasional regional travel as needed

Job Summary

We are seeking dependable and motivated AV/Low Voltage Cable Technicians to support commercial audiovisual, structured cabling, and technology infrastructure projects in the Wilmington, NC area. This role is ideal for technicians with experience installing low-voltage cabling, audiovisual systems, fiber optics, network infrastructure, and related technologies.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in commercial environments while supporting installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, route, dress, and terminate CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, coaxial, and fiber optic cabling.
• Install and support audiovisual systems including displays, projectors, speakers, microphones, digital signage, and video conferencing equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and wiring diagrams.
• Install cable pathways including J-hooks, cable tray, conduit, and surface raceway.
• Perform cable testing, labeling, and documentation in accordance with industry standards.
• Terminate and test network cabling and fiber optic infrastructure.
• Assist with rack buildouts, rack-and-stack activities, and equipment installations.
• Perform troubleshooting and repair of AV and low-voltage systems.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas while adhering to project schedules.
• Follow all company safety policies, customer requirements, and quality standards.
• Collaborate with project managers, lead technicians, and customer stakeholders to ensure successful project completion.

Required Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience in low-voltage cabling, structured cabling, AV installation, telecommunications, or related field.
• Experience pulling, routing, terminating, and testing copper or fiber cabling.
• Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
• Familiarity with commercial construction environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication and professionalism when interacting with customers and coworkers.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on ladders or lifts when required.
• Reliable transportation and valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with audiovisual system installations.
• Fiber optic termination or splicing experience.
• Manufacturer certifications such as Crestron, Biamp, Extron, QSC, Cisco, or similar.
• BICSI, OSHA 10/30, or industry certifications.
• Experience with network infrastructure, IDF/MDF buildouts, and equipment racks.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Wilmington, NC.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
