Summary of the Position

In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing and servicing a wide range of public works, municipal, and contractor-owned environmental equipment. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined, customer-focused, and comfortable working independently in the field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advanced Diagnostics and Troubleshooting:
  • Conduct thorough and accurate diagnostics on complex equipment malfunctions, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools, software, and technical manuals.
  • Identify root causes of failures and develop effective repair strategies.
  • Interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics to pinpoint issues.
  • Perform advanced testing and adjustments on engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other critical components.
  • Complex Repairs and Maintenance:
  • Perform intricate repairs and overhauls on heavy equipment according to manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.
  • Replace and repair major components, including PD blowers, fans, water and hydraulic pumps, cylinders, and transfer cases
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and machining tasks as needed for repairs.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance services, including inspections, fluid changes, filter replacements, and component adjustments.
  • Quality Control and Documentation:
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance are performed to a high standard of quality and safety.
  • Inspect completed work to verify proper functionality and adherence to specifications. Including additional areas of deficiency on the equipment.
  • Accurately document all diagnostic findings, repairs performed, parts used, and labor hours in the shop's management system.
  • Customer Interaction:
  • Interact as needed with customers to explain repair procedures or findings in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with customers.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training in heavy equipment repair preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience in the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of heavy equipment.
  • Proven expertise in diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, transmissions, power trains, and related components.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic software, tools, and equipment.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
  • Certifications from relevant manufacturers or industry organizations (e.g., ASE, OEM certifications) are highly desirable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move heavy parts and equipment (up to 50-75 lbs frequently).
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
  • Dexterity and coordination to use hand and power tools effectively.
  • Visual acuity to read technical documents and inspect equipment.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including indoors and outdoors, and exposure to noise, dust, and fumes.

The pay range for this role is:

25 - 42 USD per hour (Remote (Crown Point, Indiana, US))

25 - 42 USD per hour (Remote (Merrillville, Indiana, US))
