Job description

HF Sinclair Midstream, located in Artesia, NM, is seeking a Field Technician. This role involves transportation and purchasing of crude oil, acting as the first purchaser at the tank battery, testing grade and content, measuring purchased amounts, and monitoring system load and flow in gathering systems. The technician conducts measurements, sampling, performs administrative duties, inspects equipment, and performs maintenance with minimal supervision. They also serve as a technical lead for less experienced staff.

Job Duties
  1. Perform custody transfer operations according to company policies for crude oil, products, and natural gas liquids.
  2. Prepare run tickets detailing measurement, grade, and content of purchased crude oil to determine purchase prices.
  3. Act as liaison to producer representatives in the field.
  4. Oversee or perform equipment inspections, meter calibrations, and proving.
  5. Manage batch-changing operations for product segregation.
  6. Perform non-routine maintenance on facilities.
  7. Conduct measurements and sampling at terminals or pump stations.
  8. Witness meter proving operations.
  9. Respond to third-party requests regarding underground facilities.
  10. Represent the company in measurement and quality disputes.
  11. Interface with government during custody transfers.
  12. Lead or assist less experienced staff as needed.
  13. Manage 'dig test' one call system, monitor calls, and dispatch as necessary.
Experience & Education

Minimum three years related experience in oil and gas operations, military fuel management, or natural gas pipeline operations, or equivalent. High school diploma or equivalent required.

Skills & Responsibilities

Proficiency in mathematical calculations, measurement skills, safety procedures, mechanical aptitude, and effective communication are essential.

Supervisory Responsibility

Responsible for purchasing crude oil at approximately $25,000 per tank, with daily purchases around $250,000. No secondary approval needed; the run ticket signifies agreement to pay.

Work Conditions

Field-based role with 60% travel, outdoor environment exposure, work in various temperatures, shift work, 24-hour on-call, and possible confined space work. Valid driver’s license and insurance required.
