Job summary

The City of Euless, TX is seeking a Public Works Field Tech I-III to support street and storm sewer maintenance, repair, and construction. You will operate equipment, perform traffic control, and assist in supervising field crews in the Streets Division.

Qualified candidates will have high school education (Field Tech II requires two years related experience) and valid Texas CDL; water distribution license or ability to obtain within one year.

Job description

Public Works Field Tech I-III performs work associated with the repair, maintenance, and construction of city streets and the city storm sewer system including creek and stream maintenance. Additionally, Public Works III assists in the supervision of field crews in the Streets Division.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Field Tech I – II:

  • Performs manual and equipment assisted activities to maintain, repair and construct existing or new streets both asphalt and concrete, curbs and gutters, drainage systems, culverts, parking lots, repairs pot holes, crack sealing, saw cutting etc.
  • Performs traffic control set up at the job site to ensure a safe working environment, surveys work site and places barricades appropriately for safe traffic management
  • Operates steel wheel roller, pickup truck, skid-steer loader, tandem dump truck with trailer, backhoe and various power tools as assigned.
  • Uses a backhoe to load, unload and move materials into and out of dump trucks at various sites as directed.
  • Operates light vehicle and radio and performs operator's maintenance on vehicle.
  • Records and reports job status and condition of equipment used.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Field Tech II Additional Job Duties:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Field Tech I - II:

  • Communicate in English, clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Computer skills in data entry and data acquisition.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Field Tech I - High school education or equivalent is required. Any equivalent combination of education or experience may be considered. Must have a valid Texas Class “A” commercial driver’s license (CDL) and Class “D” Water Distribution License, or obtain required licenses within one (1) year of employment.

Field Tech II - High school education or equivalent plus two (2) years of related experience is required. Any equivalent combination of education or experience may be considered. Must have a valid Texas Class “A” commercial driver’s license (CDL) and Class “D” Water Distribution License, or obtain required licenses within one (1) year of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Lifting loads up to 55 lbs. (measuring up to 36”); carrying 55 lbs. (up to 15 feet); pushing/pulling 75 lbs.; gripping/rotating hand tools up to 25 lbs.; stair/step climbing (accessing truck); walking; sitting; standing; near/far vision; accessing sewer structures (manholes, trenches, pipes, etc.); working in outside temperatures including excess heat, cold, and precipitation.
