Job summary

General Excavating is seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer to support field operations on underground utility projects across Nebraska. The role focuses on assisting Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure project success, safety, and timely procurement through final acceptance.

This position requires coordinating with foremen and field staff, performing staking, GPS base setup, data collection, and maintaining records; travel up to 25% and Lincoln-based, with work on diverse civil

Qualifications

• 3 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read project plans and specifications.
• Ability to perform field measurements and record data accurately.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in construction environments.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates with Foreman / Superintendent / Project Manager to assist with data recording and layout.
• Sets up GPS Base stations and additional control as needed.
• Verify staking and layout against project plans and specs for accuracy.
• Interprets plans and survey records to plan field survey work.
• Maintains as-built documentation and field data records weekly.
• Supports quality control by verifying layout and tolerances.
• Maintains organized survey records and digital files.
• Troubleshoots GPS and grade control equipment to maintain accuracy.
• Performs layout of work to establish references, elevations, and alignments.
• Coordinates with on-site personnel to plan procedures and prevent delays.
