Job summary

City of Charlotte is seeking a Utilities Locator for the Charlotte Water Department. You will accurately locate and mark water and sewer infrastructure at excavation sites and interpret maps to guide field operations.

The role requires strong written and verbal communication, basic computer skills, and the ability to work with the public and contractors in varying weather. Overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least one year locate experience with utilities.
• Valid driver’s license and City Driver’s Permit
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret water, sewer, and street maps.

Responsibilities

• Locate and mark Charlotte Water mains, water service lines, sewer mains and force mains at excavation sites.
• Read and interpret water, sewer, and street maps.
• Communicate effectively with the public and contractors; complete work orders with minimal supervision.
• Use digital photography to verify completed work orders.
