Burgess & Niple, Inc. is seeking a Survey Technician to join our team in Indianapolis, IN. You will work under a licensed Professional Surveyor, gaining hands-on experience with modern equipment on a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects.

You will perform field and office surveys, conduct deed research, operate GPS and survey software, and prepare notes and sketches. Strong communication and initiative are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of surveying experience collecting topographic survey data for state transportation and utility projects and staking right‑of‑way and easements.
• Experience with survey software; MS Office Suite.
• Strong communication and organization skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and/or office survey work under the direction of a Professional Surveyor, including boundary, easement, right‑of‑way, route and topographic surveys.
• Conduct deed research across various jurisdictions and assist in the preparation of legal descriptions and right‑of‑way plans.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot GPS and digital survey equipment and software.
• Prepare field notes and sketches and read and interpret road, bridge, and utility plans, deeds, and survey plats.
• Submit utility locate requests.
• Communicate regularly with designers and state and local agencies.
