Job summary

Pennoni is hiring a Field Survey Technician to join our Hampton Roads, VA team on a full-time basis. You will operate surveying instruments, record measurements, and perform construction staking and monumentation with accuracy.

Applicants should have a High School Diploma, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work in the field with minimal supervision. Proficiency with MS Excel and exposure to modern survey technologies is a plus.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record.
  • Formal training or experience in land surveying preferred.
  • Experience with modern survey methods and technologies is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a team.

  • Adjust and operate surveying instruments (prisms, total stations, GPS, etc.).
  • Record survey measurements and descriptive data with notes and sketches.
  • Use rods for bench loops and cross-section elevations.
  • Position targets and perform sighting to measure angles and distances.
  • Search, stake, and recover sectional and property corners.
  • Perform manual labor and construction staking activities.
  • Adapt to new situations and work accurately in the field.

Job description

We are hiring for a Field Survey Technician to join our team on a full-time, direct basis at our office in Hampton Roads, VA. This person will work on a variety of projects.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Adjust & operate surveying instruments (e.g.: prisms, total stations, GPS/electronic distance-measuring equipment, auto-levels, etc.).
  • Record survey measurements & descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches, and data collection files.
  • Use rods for bench loops and cross-section elevations.
  • Position targets that Operators use for sighting in order to measure angles, distances, and elevations.
  • Search, stake, and recover sectional & property corners together with other survey monumentation.
  • Perform manual labor, such as cutting brush to clear lines, carrying materials (i.e.: stakes, rebar, and other items), and staking survey monumentation.
  • Perform construction staking activities.
  • Additional tasks may be assigned, as needed.

Basic Requirements
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent).

This person will be expected to work regularly in the field, so they will be required to possess a Valid Driver’s License as well as a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Formal training in Land Surveying.
  • Experience with Land Surveying that provided exposure to modern survey methods, best practices, and technologies.
  • Exposure to relevant technologies / tools (e.g.: Total Stations, HDLS, GIS, etc.); experience with RTS (Robotic Total Stations), GPS, Leica Geosystems HW & SW, and/or Faro High-Definition Laser Scanning equipment is a plus.
  • Proficiency on all standard Microsoft Office software applications, especially with MS-Excel.
  • Proven ability to adapt to new situations; this person will be expected to work in a self-motivated manner while effectively multi-tasking and prioritizing multiple assignments.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention-to-detail skills with the proven ability to work with a high-level of accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
