Job summary

Aqua America, Inc. (an Essential Utilities company) seeks a supervisory leader to manage 12+ field staff and coordinate maintenance and projects across the Northern Division.

You will oversee budgets, scheduling, and safety compliance while collaborating with area engineering and regulatory teams. The role requires 3–5 years in operations or utilities and a valid driver’s license, with an IEPA Class D Distribution license within 1 year of eligibility.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in operations, utilities and/or construction.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years in a supervisory role.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a workforce of 12+ non-union staff and plans maintenance activities.
  • Creates an energized work environment and motivates staff.
  • Maintains databases for reporting on compliance activities (hydrant flushing, valve exercising, meter testing, etc.).
  • Manages capital and operating budgets and ensures adherence.
  • Coordinates with area engineering to ensure project timelines and compliance with specs.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Schedules and trains field service personnel and enforces Aqua's safety policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Supervises a workforce of 12+ non-union staff, including the planning of maintenance activities, administering company policies, and communicating information for effective job performance within the Division.
  • Creates an energized work environment, fostering an atmosphere that enables employee trust and engagement.
  • Inspires confidence and motivates others to perform at their best.
  • Develops and coaches’ staff while effectively addressing performance issues.
  • Maintains databases which track and support operations including providing reporting on compliance-related activities such as hydrant flushing, valve exercising, meter testing, etc.
  • Responsible for the capital budget, operations, and maintenance budget adherence for the areas of responsibility.
  • Work with numbers and other financial information including budgets, timesheets, purchase orders and construction as-builts.
  • Partners closely with the area engineering department to ensure construction projects within the area of responsibility meet company specifications and are properly documented and completed in accordance with established timelines.
  • Be cognizant of federal, state and local regulations which the utility must observe.
  • Maintain close working arrangements with area public utilities and political subdivisions and represent the company in meetings with the township, county and state organizations for the coordination of projects, including main replacements, new services, hydrant installations and related appurtenances.
  • Scheduling, training and supervision of field service personnel, ensuring Aqua’s safety policies and procedures are followed.
  • Responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the Company’s office facilities, garages, vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school graduate or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience and knowledge in operations, utilities and/or construction is required.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years in a supervisory role is preferred.
  • Must obtain required license (IEPA Class D Distribution) within 1 year of eligibility to take the exam to properly oversee the operation and maintenance of the distribution systems.
  • Must have a valid U.S. Drivers license.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • May be subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases and /or poor ventilation atmospheric conditions
  • Day Travel Requirement within the Northern Division is required.
